USI SUPSI WHITE WEEK |

5-10.02 - Savognin, Hotel Cube
Cost: Starting from chf 450.-
Proposed Activities: ski and snowboard (indipendent practice), ski course, snowboard course, snowshoes excursions, sledging, cross country skiing, ski touring, freeride
Also for this season we have planned our base at the Hotel Cube in Savognin. Modern and cozy infrastructures, the flexibility of the catering service, free access to the Spa, the "club Aktive" with the possibility of the equipment hire and the proximity to the ski lifts allow us to offer a high value proposal at very reasonable prices.
In addition to the traditional skiing and snowboarding activities, our team has developed a series of activities designed to "create group" among the participants: aperitif with punch and mulled wine, ice hockey and curling, night excursions with snowshoes, cross-country skiing.
The Savognin station, thanks to artificial snow infrastructures, ensure the opening of the slopes during the whole winter season and can be reached by car in about 1 hour and 45 from Lugano. The region also offers the possibility of excursions with snowshoes and skis for hiking and scenic walks for non-skiers.

Winter sports, dangerous sports?
In Switzerland, winter sports are very popular: more than 1.7 million skiers and 350,000 snowboarders aged between 10 and 75 years practice them for an average of 10 days a year. Snow tourism generates an important economic impact to our economy. In addition to the economic implications that winter sports have, another fact should not be underestimated: snow sports are the main cause of accidents second only to amateur soccer (more than 65,000 accidents a year needing medical treatment).
Many of these injuries are the result of inadequate physical training and insufficient equipment. With the advent of the ski carving and snowboard scenes, and of new different disciplines (freestyle, freeride in particular) there has been an expansion, involving a large number of young people. These are very "fascinating" sports but require exceptional technical and physical condition. A good workout program in the autumn, in particular, the strengthening of leg and trunk muscles, is a possible way to reduce the risk of injury. Finally we cannot but recommend full protective gear: helmet, body armor and reinforced wrist-protecting gloves are the elements that can fundamentally help reduce the risk of injury in case of falls.
Avalanche: the white danger
There are more and more winter sports enthusiasts looking for fun off the slopes and away from the marked, safe routes. The emotions that can be experienced facing a downhill slope, in powder snow, away from the ski lifts and in a unique natural setting push many people to underestimate the real danger of nature itself.
In ski resorts, slopes are constantly made safe by professionals, however while making ski excursions (sealskin, snowboard freeride, snowshoeing) personal responsibility is the only thing that counts. In general it is advisable to have a cautious basic attitude and to calculate a margin of reserve. We recommend reading about the degree of avalanche danger for the chosen area (www.sfl.ch) and about the predicted weather conditions (www.meteovizzera.admin.ch).
You will also find 3 brochures on our site (Off piste, ski touring and snowshoeing) drawn up by the office of accident prevention describing key safety rules in these three winter sports.
We hope that everyone will be able to practice their favorite winter sports and to live those emotions that only the mountains in their winter beauty can give.
