Press conference by Federal Councillor Ignazio Cassis at USI:
"Impressions, perspectives and political priorities after three months at the head of the FDFA"
Thursday, 1 February 2018, 1.45 pm
Auditorium, Lugano Campus
Invitation to USI academic community: students, professors, staff
Federal Councillor Ignazio Cassis assumed the leadership of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) on 1 November 2017. He has chosen Lugano, city half way between Swiss Plateau and Milan, to present, on 1 February, his first impressions of the tasks, responsibilities and challenges that await him as foreign minister. Choosing the canton of Ticino for his first press conference is also a way to emphasise that to succeed, Switzerland's foreign policy needs support inside the country – including in regions like Italian-speaking Switzerland, where prudence is often called for.
Università della Svizzera italiana (USI), an academic institution which stands for Italian-speaking culture, openness to the world and innovation, will host Mr Cassis' '100-days' press conference.
The Federal Department of Foreign Affairs is pleased to extend the invitation to the press conference of Federal Councilor Ignazio Cassis to the academic community of USI, bearing in mind that:
- access to the Lugano campus Auditorium is granted until full capacity is reached;
- the event will be streamed live in room A11 (Red building, Lugano campus) for participants who can not be seated in the Auditorium;
- the press conference is held at the national level, it will therefore be spoken in German, French and partially in Italian.
