The Faculty of Informatics is pleased to announce a seminar given by Andrea Campanella

Open Networking Foundation (ONF) Overview with P4 and programmable data planes use cases deep-dive
Speaker: Andrea Campanella
Open Networking Foundation (ONF), Italy
Date: Thursday, November 8, 2018
Place: USI Lugano Campus, room A23, Red building (Via G. Buffi 13)
Time: 15:30-16:30

The talk will provide an introduction to the Open Networking Foundation (ONF) with an overview of it’s current development efforts and solutions, the leaf-spine datacenter fabric (Trellis), Software Enabled Broadband Access (Seba), Open Disaggregated Transport Network (ODTN), Unified Programmable Automated Network.  After the overview the presentation will discuss in depth the Open Network Operating System (ONOS) the SDN controller underlying the solution previously shown. In particular highlighting it’s features of performance, scalability, resiliency, modularity and production readiness.  In ONOS we will dive deeper in the P4 and P4Runtime integration, showcasing some of the achievements and projects that leverage programmable data planes for Service Providers deployments and future networks. A small demo of ONOS running on the presenter’s laptop and controlling P4 emulated environment through P4Runtime will be shown.  The presentation will also outline what are the possible ares of contribution for students, PhDs and professors to make an impact on the current networking industry through ONF through persona contributions such as projects, theses and research.

ODTN project Lead, Member of ONOS Technical Steering Team Andrea Campanella is employed as a Member of Technical staff (MTS) at Open Networking Foundation (ONF). Andrea obtained a Master's degree (110/110) in computer science at the Public University of Milan in December 2016 after a Bachelor degree in Digital communication in July 2014. The master degree program and the final thesis work focused on computer networks and SDN, with specific attention to southbound protocols and paths to production.

Andrea started working with ONF through an internship in October 2015.

Presently working as a software engineer and developer for different projects and on both the ONOS and CORD platforms. Andrea is currently the leader of the Optical Disaggregated Transport Network (ODTN) Reference Design and Exemplar Platform. He also contributes to the P4 integration activities, the Leaf-spine Trellis project and the Software Defined Broadband Access (SEBA) project. Andrea also sits on the ONOS Technical Steering Team.
