Clouds, Swarms and Pixels – May 2020 / FS 29: Extended deadline
„In the course of the modern era, numerical thinking has penetrated more and more deeply into things but instead of reaching the ground it has dissolved things into wafts of mist that float in nothingness. But this is not the essential moment yet. While bending over things [the subject] has [also] dissolved itself … This uncanny process is generally termed euphemistically ‘Enlightenment’ confusing fog with clarity.“ Vilém Flusser, Vom Subjekt zum Projekt.
The focus of the May 2020 issue of Flusser Studies is on a central metaphorical cluster in Vilém Flusser’s work that reaches back to his early interest in Buddhism, relates to his constructivist view of the world and his notion of nothingness, as well as to his translation and communication theory, the possibilities of new information technologies and the way they transform our vision of the world.
The deadline for submissions for the issue is April 15, 2020. I look forward to hearing from and working with you. Please let me know if you are interested in contributing and if you have any questions (guldinr@usi.ch).
