MARIE SKLODOWSKA-CURIE ACTIONS - INNOVATIVE TRAINING NETWORK (ITN)

The Innovative Training Networks (ITN) aim to train a new generation of creative, entrepreneurial and innovative early-stage researchers, able to face current and future challenges and to convert knowledge and ideas into products and services for economic and social benefit.

It supports joint research training and/or doctoral programmes, implemented by partnerships of universities, research institutions, research infrastructures, businesses, SMEs, and other socio-economic actors from different countries across Europe and beyond.

SOCIETAL CHALLENGE 3 - SECURE, CLEAN AND EFFICIENT ENERGY

Horizon 2020 supports research, demonstration, innovation and market-uptake actions across different low-carbon energy sectors, notably in the core priorities identified in the Energy Union Strategy: renewable energy, smart energy systems, energy efficiency and carbon capture utilization and storage. Under the societal challenge 3 “Secure, clean and efficient energy” there are several open calls.

ERC CONSOLIDATOR GRANTS 2018

ERC Consolidator Grants are designed to support excellent researchers (with 7 to 12 years of research experience after award of their PhD prior to 1st of January 2018) at the career stage at which they are consolidating their own independent research team.

The ERC scheme funds ground-breaking frontier research projects across all fields of science on the basis of scientific excellence and they are open to researchers of any nationality.

Swiss funding opportunities: main open calls

SNSF NCCR CALL

The SNSF call for a 5th series of National Centres of Competence in Research (NCCRs) has been launched. The call is aimed at funding research initiatives in all science areas. The goal of the NCCR funding scheme is to finance long-term, high-quality research projects of national significance and promote the sustainable development of competence centres and structural capacities at higher education institutions. In addition to federal funds, NCCRs receive funding from the higher education institutions and from third parties.

SNSF POSTDOC MOBILITY

Postdoc.Mobility fellowships replace Advanced Postdoc.Mobility fellowships with immediate effect, supporting postdocs who wish to conduct or extend a research stay abroad.

The fellowships are in principle granted for 24 months, but never for less than 12 months. The total duration of 36 months between a PM fellowship and other potential SNSF mobility fellowships may not be exceeded. Compared to APM fellowships, the eligibility window after obtaining a PhD is shorter now (3 years).

SNSF ECCELLENZA

With the aim of maintaining the competitiveness of Swiss research, the SNSF is launching a new career funding scheme at assistant professor level.

The new SNSF Eccellenza funding scheme is aimed at highly qualified young researchers who are aiming for a permanent professorship. This scheme enables them to achieve their goal as leaders of a generously funded research project and team at a higher education institution in Switzerland.

SNSF Eccellenza can be applied for between 3 and 8 years after completing the doctorate or equivalent qualification.

International calls for proposals

CROATIAN - SWISS RESEARCH PROGRAMME

The Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) and its Croatian counterpart are launching the Croatian-Swiss Research Programme. The purpose of the thematically open call is to finance ten to twelve projects, provided that a sufficient number of high-quality proposals are submitted.

SCENARIOS OF BIODEVERSITY AND ECOSYSTEM SERVICES

The Belmont Forum and BIodivERsA are launching the 2017-2018 joint call for funding international transdisciplinary research projects on scenarios of biodiversity and ecosystem services.

The call will address the two following major (non-exclusive) priorities:

  • Development and application of scenarios of biodiversity and ecosystem services across spatial scales of relevance to multiple types of decisions
  • Consideration of multiple dimensions of biodiversity and ecosystem services in biodiversity scenarios

25 funding organisations from 23 countries are joining this call.
