Swiss funding opportunities: open calls for proposals

SNSF - CTI BRIDGE PROOF OF CONCEPT

Bridge, the new programme conducted by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) and the Commission for Technology and Innovation (CTI), offers funding opportunities at the intersection of basic and science-based innovation.

It consists of two funding schemes:

  • Proof of Concept: aimed at young researchers who wish to develop an application or service based on their research results.
  • Discovery: aimed at experienced researchers who aim to explore and implement the innovation potential of research results.

The first call for proposals for the scheme Proof of Concept is now open.

Bridge Proof of concept helps young researchers to apply their research results and gain the confidence needed to make a market entry. The projects may target innovations of all kinds from all research areas.

AMBIZIONE - FIRST CALL FOLLOWING INNOVATIONS IN FUNDING SCHEME

Ambizione enables young researchers in all disciplines to start doing independent research. The grants are aimed at young researchers who wish to conduct, manage and lead an independent project at a Swiss higher education institution.

The Ambizione scheme has been redesigned and will be open also to young researchers with non-professorial research positions offering career prospects. Researchers may submit an application no later than 4 years after completing their doctorate and must have completed at least 12 months of research activities at a different higher education institution than the one where they obtained the doctorate.

SNSF ADVANCED POSTDOC.MOBILITY

Advanced Postdoc.Mobility fellowships of the SNSF are awarded to advanced postdocs who wish to conduct or extend a research stay abroad.

The fellowships are granted for 12 to 36 months. A return phase of 3 to 12 months at a research institution in Switzerland is possible. Fellowships include a grant for subsistence costs, a flat-rate for travel expenses and a possible contribution to research, conference costs and matriculation fees.

Applicants must have at least 1 year of research experience at postdoctoral level. Persons with foreign nationality must prove at least 3 years of research activity at a Swiss research institution.

COTUTELLES DE THèSE 2017

A cotutelle de these is a doctoral project that is carried out within the framework of a formalized agreement between two universities. Every year, the State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI), within the framework of its programme “Cotutelle de these”, grants financial support for projects that are based on a cooperation agreement between a Swiss and a partner university abroad.

The maximum amount of the grant is 10’000 CHF; funds are mainly intended to cover travel, and living expenses incurred by the doctoral candidate and his/her supervisors.

International calls for proposals

SWISS NETWORK FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDIES (SNIS): 10TH CALL FOR PROJECTS

The Swiss Network for International Studies (SNIS) offers project grants for pluridisciplinary research teams. The project grants run for two years and range from 100’000 to 300’000 CHF.

Projects can qualify as International studies (research on global issues that are relevant in the international arena or concern multiple countries simultaneously) or Pluri-disciplinary studies (they can include disciplines form the social and natural sciences).

The ERA-NET CHIST-ERA supports EU research collaborations in information and communication sciences and technologies (ICT).

CHIST-ERA is looking for transformative and highly multidisciplinary research projects that should explore new ideas with potential for significant scientific and technical impacts in the long term.
