SOCIETAL CHALLENGES 6 - EUROPE IN A CHANGING WORLD. INCLUSIVE, INNOVATIVE AND REFLECTIVE SOCIETIES

Societal Challenges are top-down schemes that address specific challenges identified by the European Commission with the purpose to find a solution to given problems. Under the Societal Challenges 6 – Europe in a changing world, there are two open Calls with deadlines in April and May 2016:

  • ENG-Globally-09-2016: Centres/Networks of European research and innovation 14 April 2016
  • CO-CREATION-05-2016: Co-creation between public administrations: once-only principle 24 May 2016

ERC PROOF OF CONCEPT

The ERC Proof of Concept Grants aim to maximise the value of the excellent research that the ERC funds, by funding further work to verify the innovation potential of ideas arising from ERC funded projects.

All Principal Investigators in an ERC frontier research project, that is either on going or has ended less than 12 months before the opening date of this call, are eligible to participate and apply for an ERC Proof of Concept Grant.

ACTIVE AND ASSISTED LIVING PROGRAMME (AAL) CALL 2016

The aim of the call is enabling the wellbeing of people living with dementia and their communities by the contribution of ICT to integrated solutions. This call support innovative, transnational and multi-disciplinary collaborative projects with a clear route to market and added-value for the different types of end-users. A key priority underlying this challenge will be to bring together technologies and services to create ICT based solutions addressing the aspirations and challenges that will enable the wellbeing of people with dementia and their communities.

Swiss funding opportunities: open calls for proposals and information

NEW REGULATIONS SNSF AS OF JANUARY 2016

The SNSF has revised its most important regulations, the Funding Regulations and the Implementation Regulations. These have been in force in their revised form since 1 January 2016 and provide the legal basis for all funding schemes of the SNSF (the SNSF will apply the new provisions to pending procedures and ongoing grants only if they do not disadvantage the researchers).

The exception is project funding, which will be governed by the old Funding Regulations and the old Implementation Regulations until 1 October 2016.

R'EQUIP

The SNSF awards R’Equip grants in all scientific disciplines for the acquisition, modernization and development of large-scale research equipment.

The scheme addresses researchers in Switzerland who need high-quality, innovative apparatuses for their research work. Researchers are entitled to submit applications if they are conducting research at the intended location of the research equipment and are co-responsible for its future use and maintenance.

SWISS-SOUTH AFRICAN JOINT RESEARCH PROGRAMME

For the cooperation period 2017 – 2020, the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) and the National Research Foundation (NRF) in South Africa have issued a call for joint research projects (JRPs) in the following thematic areas:

  • Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being: from new tools to systems understanding;
  • Sustainability, focusing on the following fields: Environmental Sciences, Engineering and energy-related issues;
  • Social sciences and humanities (including law) in the context of current and coming societal challenges;
  • Methodologies and technologies for data intensive applications.

International calls for proposals

FLAG-ERA JOINT TRANSNATIONAL CALL FOR FLAGSHIP PROOF-OF-CONCEPT PROJECTS

FLAG-ERA stands for the ‘Flagship ERA-NET’ and is a network of national and regional founding organisations from Europe and beyond. The new FLAG-ERA Joint Transnational Call (JTC) 2016 will support projects in the fields of the Flagship Pilots, with the aim of building on the visions they have identified. The call will cover four topics, each corresponding to the domain of a Flagship-Pilots, and the Swiss National Science Foundation will participate in three of them:

  • ICT for Social Sciences
  • High-Efficiency Sensor Networks
  • Cooperative Robots

GERMAINE DE STAëL PROGRAM: OPEN CALL

The Germain de Staël program is a joint French and Swiss initiative to encourage joint research projects in all fields of research. Swiss researchers can get an annual funding of about 4’500 CHF to cover their travel expenses for two years.

The following projects will have a preferential treatment:

  • Innovative projects;
  • Projects with young researchers as main applicants;
  • Projects in the field of human and social sciences.
