SWISS PARTICIPATION IN HORIZON 2020

On Wednesday the 26th February 2014, the European Commission (EC) announced that until further notice Switzerland will be considered as a Third Country for the H2020 calls that are currently open for submission.

In reaction to this announcement, the State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI) published a statement listing the concrete implications of the new situation as well as their recommendations on how to proceed, especially with regard to proposals that are currently being prepared.

Open calls for proposals

ERA-CAPS : FUNDING RESEARCH IN FUNDAMENTAL MOLECULAR PLANT SCIENCE

The ERA-CAPS initiative addresses both current and future challenges in food and non-food crop production by coordinating and funding research.

The evalutation procedure is divided into two steps. Once all evaluation steps have been completed, the final funding decisions rests with the corresponding national authorities (for Switzerland, the Swiss National Science Foundation).

SNSF: MONEY FOLLOWS COOPERATION LINE PROCESS

These agreements allow submitting projects to the SNF where a small part is realized abroad (with Swiss funding, max. 30% of the total budget). Submission and evaluation follow the usual procedures.

This is currently possible with Austria, Germany and, from now on, also with the United Kingdom. With reference to the UK, this possibility is limited to projects in the field of humanities and social sciences.

SNSF: LEAD AGENCY AGREEMENTS

These agreements allow collaborative projects with partners in other countries, where each national agency supports the national partners. There is a single application to the funding agency of the “lead partner”, which takes care of the whole evaluation processes.

This is possible with Austria and Germany (bi- and tri-lateral projects), with Luxembourg and, from 2014, with France.

For France, the agreement with the Agence Nationale de la Recherche foresees that  applications can be submitted to SNF in 2014 (deadline 01.04.2014), whereas applications in 2015 will be submitted to ANR.

CATRENE - EUREKA

CATRENE is the new industry-initiated pan-European Programme for advanced co-operative Research and Development in Microelectronics.

The current open call focuses on Innovative Solutions for Smart Cities.

Project consortia should be composed of large companies, SMEs and research institutions.

The final funding decision will be taken by national authorities (for Switzerland, the Commission for Technology and Innovation CTI).

CONCERT JAPAN: CALL FOR PROPOSALS ON PHOTONIC MANUFACTURING

The overall aim of this call on Photonic Manufacturing is to support scientific research that will lead to the development of next generation materials, devices and photonic manufacturing technologies.

Each project consortium should consist of at least three partners, one Japanese partner and two European partners from two different European countries that participate in the CONCERT Japan Joint Call (Italy/Region of Lombardy, Hungary, Slovakia, Switzerland and Turkey).

GERMAINE DE STAëL PROGRAMME: CALL FOR PROJECTS

Germaine de Staël program aims to foster cooperation between Swiss and French research teams, by funding travel and accomodation expenses arising from common projects in any discipline.

SNSF PROFESSORSHIPS

SNSF professorships target young researchers who intend to pursue an academic career and wish to establish their own team to realise a research project.

An SNSF professorship includes the researcher's salary (assistant professorship level), a research grant, salaries of employees as well as a contribution to infrastructure costs. The funding period is 4 years and may be extended by no more than 2 years.

SNSF: CALL FOR EDITION PROJECTS

With this call, the SNSF aims to take stock and carry out a needs analysis with regard to edition projects in the humanities and to make preliminary funding decisions for the future. As of 2017, it will support edition projects only in a coordinated manner within the scope of its infrastructure funding.

Agora is aimed at researchers who wish to carry out a public science communication project. Agora projects should aim to give insight into the research conducted by the applicant as well as foster interaction and dialogue between researchers and society.
