New course structure for MASHLM

MASHLM is continually working to better meet the needs of our students. Starting in January 2015, the program will contain 18 classes delivered over five blocks and taking approximately 18 months to complete. This new course structure will include more project work and process improvement methodology in the form of a Lean Six Sigma class.

Lean Six Sigma-Green Belt Certification

Starting with the 7th edition of MASHLM, participants will earn a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certification, qualifying them to manage process improvement projects.

Two major approaches for process improvement emerged separately in the 20th century and are known as “Lean” and “Six Sigma” methodologies. Lean improvements focus on process speed and waste removal, while Six Sigma, like its predecessor Total Quality Management (TQM), focuses on the removal of process defects for quality improvements and the reduction of process variability.

MASHLM and MASHOM in Kenya

Both programs, MASHLM and MASHOM were represented at the Humanitarian Partnership Conference (HPC), in Nairobi, Kenya, that took place 16-18 September, 2014. The conference aimed at bridging the gap between humanitarian organizations and academics through partnerships. Several valuable relations were build between USI and different NGOs, other universities and humanitarian practisioners.

Prof. Paluo Gonçalves, Founder and Director of the MASHLM & MASHOM programs, held a successful presentation during the conference titled "Partnerships as a Catalyst for Improved Humanitarian Effectiveness".
